How to make Valentine’s Day a memorable moment

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, get ready for plenty of conversations around love, relationships and all things sex. Whether you plan on spending Valentine’s Day cosying up at home or celebrating at your favourite restaurant, there are always new ways to make the evening that little bit extra-special. We know that planning the perfect night can often feel daunting, so we’re here to make sure your evening is a night to remember. With this in mind, here’s how to make Valentine’s Day a memorable moment.

Be Prepared

It’s not a coincidence that Valentine’s Day also shares its celebrations with National Condom Day - the perfect opportunity to remind people about the importance of wearing a condom for safer-sex. We know there’s nothing worse than feeling in the moment and realising you’ve run out of your favourite condom or you’re not wearing the right size condom, so being prepared is one of the most important ways to make Valentine’s Day a more memorable moment.

If it’s been a while since you measured your penis, or if you’ve never measured and typically grab ‘regular' and hope for the best - then now’s the perfect time to do this. One size does not fit all when it comes to wearing a condom, and if you’re wearing the wrong size condom it can lead to a whole heap of problems from slipping off, splitting and feeling tight and uncomfortable - all of which can lead to a sex-life that’s less satisfying and more chance of contracting a sexually transmitted infection or becoming pregnant. This is why we offer seven different sizes, so you can be perfectly matched to the right size condom for a more enjoyable sex-life. After all, making sure your condom fits correctly is key to a great sexual experience.

Valentine's Day is the day of the condom

In 2009, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation from the USA founded Condom Day to make people aware of the importance of condoms, to improve education and to promote the use of condoms. Through action, it is hoped to raise awareness of safe sex and thus curb the spread of HIV.

Condom Day has therefore been held annually since 2009, at the same time as Valentine's Day on February 14.

Set the scene

A Valentine’s Day ‘evening to remember’ is all about the environment - not only does it create the right mood, but it can turn a pretty standard evening into a truly memorable moment. Setting the mood can mean different things to different people so think about how you want this evening to be remembered and what you know your partner will appreciate. Here are a few of our favourite ways of setting a romantic evening;

  • This Valentine’s Day, make sure the bedroom has a cosy and relaxing feel to it - this may mean you need to declutter beforehand or put the laundry away that’s slowly starting to pile up on the chest of draws.
  • If you know your partner has a favourite smelling candle, purchase them in advance so they are ready for the big day.
  • Get organised; Make sure everything you want to use is close-to-hand, whether that’s your massage oil, lubricant or the right-size condom - you don’t want the moment interrupted while you go looking for something.
  • Make sure there aren’t any distractions. Keep all phones outside of the bedroom - you don’t want to be knee-deep in sexual pleasure and then your phone starts ringing, maybe you need to keep the pets downstairs - whatever it is, thinking about any possible distractions in advance is a good way of making sure the evening stays as memorable as possible.

Make it playful

Passionate, pleasurable and playful; three words that should describe all sex lives. However, we know that it can be all too easy to fall into a sexual-rut that has lost that playful edge. If this sounds like your current sex-life, then it might be time to reignite that magical spark. Here are a few ways to make sex more playful this Valentine’s Day.

Add lubricant

Lubricant is one of the easiest ways to make sex more playful. Not only does it prevent sex from feeling uncomfortable if you’re feeling a little dry down there, but can also enhance different positions, can be used alongside sex toys and condoms as well as creating new and pleasurable sensations.

Try out new positions

If your sex-life feels stuck with the same position over and over again, then it might be time to start experimenting with something new. With over hundreds of sexual positions available, you are really spoilt for choice when it comes to creating more memorable moments. Not only will you experience more sexual pleasure, you’ll find you have tons more fun manoeuvring into all sorts of different positions and angles. A few of our favourite sexual positions include; reverse cowgirl, the magic bullet and spooning.

Tease

Part of what contributes to a memorable moment and a satisfying sex-life is the anticipation and excitement that comes with achieving that all important orgasm. Teasing is one of the best foreplay techniques that you can use - not only does it build tension and excitement but also increases connection and intimacy and encourages you to experiment with each other's erogenous zones. There are lots of different ways to tease your partner, so if you’re new to teasing, try this one out this Valentine’s Day;

To begin teasing, start by slowly caressing and kissing your partner's neck and watch how your partner responds to this - you can use a blindfold to enhance the experience to prevent them from knowing which areas you are going to pleasure. Next slowly move down their body, using your mouth, tongue and breath to sensitise different areas and watch them tense up as they anticipate you moving lower and lower until you get to their genitals. Here, you can slowly start stimulating their genitals with your mouth - if you want to increase the tension and teasing, you can stop before they orgasm, and try something different for a while.
